Introduction

You are a System Administrator at GreenTech Solutions, a company that focuses on providing eco-friendly digital solutions. The company is launching a new internal portal based on Apache, and you are responsible for ensuring its security and proper functioning. This lab will guide you through setting up a virtual machine, installing and configuring Apache, and troubleshooting various SELinux-related issues to ensure the service runs smoothly and securely.

Objectives

Successfully complete this lab by achieving the following learning objectives:

  1. Start the Apache service and troubleshoot initial SELinux issues.
  2. Resolve SELinux issues preventing viewing web content.
  3. Securely configure custom directories for web content with appropriate SELinux contexts.
  4. Implement additional SELinux policies to enhance security.

Prerequisites

Before starting this lab, ensure you meet the following prerequisites:

  1. Linux Knowledge:
    • Understanding of basic Linux commands and system administration.
    • Familiarity with SELinux concepts and tools.
  2. System Administration Skills:
    • Basic command-line skills.
  3. Required Access and Configurations:
    • Vagrant installed on your machine.
    • VirtualBox or another provider compatible with Vagrant.

Required Materials and Software

  1. Computer with Stable Internet Access:
    • You will need a computer with stable internet access to interact with the virtual machine and install necessary packages.
  2. Vagrant and VirtualBox:
    • Ensure Vagrant and VirtualBox are installed and configured on your local machine.
